Keynote Speaking: Healing, Growth, and "Redefining Normal" Through Writing

Life isn’t always a straight path—it’s often full of twists, detours, and challenges that test us in ways we never expected. For me, recovery has been a defining part of my journey. Whether it’s recovering from substance use, navigating the depths of depression, or learning how to heal and grow into a new version of myself, every step has shaped who I am today. And at the heart of my recovery, growth, and healing has been writing.

When I stand on stage, I don’t just talk about writing stories—I talk about rewriting our own stories. I call this process "redefining normal": challenging the expectations we once held about ourselves, letting go of what no longer serves us, and creating new narratives that empower us to thrive.

In my keynote talks, I share my personal process of healing and self-discovery, how writing became my lifeline, and how it can serve as a powerful tool for growth, reflection, and recovery for others, too.

1. The Journey of Recovery
   Recovery isn’t a one-size-fits-all process, and it’s not just about overcoming substance use or depression—it’s about rebuilding a life that feels authentic, meaningful, and fulfilling. I talk openly about my own experiences with recovery, from the darkest moments to the breakthroughs that led me to where I am today.

   Recovery is never perfect, but it’s always possible. My goal is to inspire others to see that they, too, can move forward, even when the path seems unclear.
   

2. "Redefining Normal": Rewriting Your Story
   One of the most powerful lessons I’ve learned through recovery and writing is that we can all redefine what "normal" means. So often, we get stuck in old patterns, unhealthy expectations, or societal pressures that tell us who we should be or how we should live. But through recovery and self-reflection, I’ve learned that we get to rewrite those rules.

   I’ll discuss what it means to redefine normal for yourself, how to let go of the stories that hold you back, and how to create a life that aligns with your true self.
   

3. My Writing World: The Books, the Stories, and What’s Next
   My own journey of self-discovery and recovery deeply influences my fiction writing. While my books may tackle political intrigue, futuristic worlds, or conspiracy-driven thrillers, they’re always grounded in the human experience—particularly the themes of resilience, redemption, and transformation.

   During my keynotes, I share how my personal journey informs my creative process, the books I’ve written and why they matter, and what’s on the horizon in my writing world. I also explore how fiction and storytelling can serve as powerful mirrors, reflecting our struggles, fears, and hopes in ways that help us better understand ourselves.

Speaking Fees

Option 1: U.S. Fee: USD 4,500
(Includes flight and transportation; hotel not included)

Option 2: Negotiated Fee + Book Purchase Requirements
(Does not include flight, transportation, and hotel)

International Fee: USD 7,500
(Canada, Europe, Mexico, Caribbean)

A $1500 deposit is required to hold the date.

Hotel Preferences:

• When available, Marriott Property (full service) is preferred as a comparable option.

• Alternative: Hilton Property (full service).

It's been eight years since my last keynote, and since then, I haven’t felt like I had anything interesting to say to an audience. Now, after writing several more books (both non-fiction and fiction), founding a technology startup, and making some (good and bad) investments in companies, I’m excited to step back on stage. My goal is to inspire more than annoy the lovely guests.

I don’t have any recent speaking videos, and I have just one current reference—from a small group for a large company I spoke to on Zoom in 2023. Transparency is one of my "true norths," so I wanted to get that on the table upfront.
